Summer Camps for Ages 5 – 12
Butterfly Pavilion camps are designed to provide kids with memorable experiences that connect them to nature and encourage an appreciation for science. Led by a dynamic education team, our camps incorporate exploration, inquiry, art and play into programs that appeal to a variety of interests and abilities. Camps are offered during the summer from June to August, as well as on Out of School Days during the school year.
New this year! Campers will be grouped by age, ages 5 – 6 in one room and ages 7 – 12 in another, for certain activities. This will allow us to better cater our curriculum to specific grade levels, enhancing the learning experience! However, all campers will be together for games, lunches, and exhibit exploration.
Space is limited and pre-registration for all camps is required.
PLEASE NOTE: You MUST register your child for camp at least 3 business days before the camp begins (for full week camp, this will be the Thursday prior to the Monday of camp). If you have questions, please call our Registration Coordinator at 720-974-1861.

Half Day 9am-12pm – $117 for members, $130 for non-members

Q: When do summer camps start and end, and how much do they cost?
A: We will be having camps all summer – starting June 4 for half day mini-camps, and ending August 10. We are having every mixture of half day, full day, full week, and even grandparent camp!! There are some exceptions, but this will be the general cost structure:
- Full Week – Full Day 9am-4pm – $230 for members, $250 for nonmembers
- Full Week – Half Day 9am-12pm – $117 for members, $130 for non-members
- Half Day one-day only camps – 9am-12pm – $27 for members, $30 for nonmembers

*Stay tuned for pricing and registration information for grandparent camp!
Q: Do you have full scholarships?
A: We are able to provide up to 50% scholarships for campers who qualify for Free and Reduced Lunch at School.
Q: I have a 6 year old and an 8 year old. Will they be together?
A: This year, we are able to split age ranges in the same camps! 5-6 year olds will do most of their activities in Classroom A, and 7-12 year olds will do most of their activities in Classroom B – about 50 feet up the hall. They will be together for games, lunches, and exhibit exploration, but will experience content that is more specific for their age range. The camp theme will be the same for both.
Q: What is your child: staff ratio and what is your capacity?
A: Legally, there will be at least one program leader providing supervision with each group of 15 or fewer children cared for by the camp. However, here at Butterfly Pavilion, we have 1 Lead Educator, 2 Assistant Educators, at least 1 volunteer, and the Camp Director on site for all camps.
We limit our registration to 25 campers per room – so 50 total per camp week.
Q: My child will be 5 in the fall. Can I still sign her up for a half day or full day camp?
A: No. Unfortunately, due to our Child Care License – children attending camps must be at least five years old or have completed kindergarten. Our legal maximum upper age is 16, but our camps are geared toward children ages 5-12.
Q: What if I need to cancel my child’s registration?
A: Cancellations with at least 3 business days’ notice will be charged a 10% processing fee, and remainder of cost will be refunded to customer.
No refund is given for cancellation with less than 3 business days’ notice
A full refund will be given to the customer if the Butterfly Pavilion cancels a camp for any reason.
Q: Will parents be allowed to stay with their children while they are in camp?
A: As a general rule, this is not allowed. Camp is designed to encourage interaction among participants of the same age, without parents. Due to space limitations, we are unable to accommodate parents. Some children will perhaps experience a brief moment of anxiety, overcome their fears and participate more quickly without a parent present. If you think your child cannot remain in class without you, please consider waiting another year.
Q: What are the expectations for children’s behavior while they are at camp?
A: Butterfly Pavilion camp is all about respect. We expect that all campers will respect themselves, other people, the zoo and nature. Respectful behavior will help to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone at camp. Campers are expected to be “good citizens” and display proper behavior while at camp. On the first day of every camp week, each camp group will further discuss the group’s expectations for good camp behavior. Parents will be required to sign a Code of Conduct as a part of registration. Butterfly Pavilion reserves the right to suspend any camper that does not abide by our expectations for good camper behavior.
Q: Will my camper be leaving Butterfly Pavilion during camp?
A: All activities will be conducted on site at Butterfly Pavilion, in the adjacent Big Dry Creek Open Space, or at Westminster City Park.
Children will be actively supervised at all times. Parents or guardians will have access to a list of camp activities at all times. If not onsite, the staff on duty will have access to communication to center via cell phone and radio. Emergency information and phone numbers will be brought off site. Off-site field trips requiring vehicles will not be conducted.
The end of the session occurs at different times for each of the programs the Butterfly Pavilion offers. Parents will be requested to pick their children up within 15 minutes of the program end. Early drop-off begins at 8:00am and late pick up ends at 5:00pm. Both of these options add on a $5 charge. If a parent is more than 15 minutes late picking up their child, they will be charged this fee.
Q: Does Butterfly Pavilion provide lunch or snacks?
A: Children must provide their own lunch and snacks and store it with their personal belongings in their assigned classroom. If the program falls during the lunch hour (12:00-1:00 p.m.), a lunch break will be taken. Half day campers do not need to bring a lunch. Parents will be responsible for providing a form of cooling if needed in the lunch. Butterfly Pavilion cannot guarantee access to a microwave and is not responsible for heating or preparing a hot lunch.
Q: Is Butterfly Pavilion an allergy-free camp?
A: No. Butterfly Pavilion does its best to accommodate campers with allergies, and provides options for separated lunch areas. If your child has an allergy, our staff is trained in Medication Administration and Standard Precautions. However, there may still be campers that do bring lunch or snacks that have allergens for your child and we cannot guarantee total protection.
Q: Do you offer sibling discounts?
A: We do not currently offer sibling discounts, but we are able to offer discounts to members, and Butterfly Pavilion staff and volunteers.
