OUTREACH PROGRAMS & DISTANCE LEARNING AT YOUR SCHOOL!

No bus? No problem! Invite Butterfly Pavilion to your classroom in person or via interactive video conferencing! We’ll share memorable, challenging, and rewarding learning experiences featuring interactive activities with live animals and/or specimens, models, and media. Check out our NEW offerings!

Butterfly Pavilion also offers after school enrichment programs. Email education@butterflies.org to learn more about customized series for your school. Scholarships available for qualifying schools.  


Itsy Bitsy Bugs – Ages 2-PreK

Youngsters meet live bugs, including Rosie the tarantula (to see, not hold), through dramatic play and music, and use their curiosity to learn about bugs they may find outside at home or school.

Ages/Grades: Ages 2-PreK
Length: 30 minutes
Fee: $80/session; sequential sessions discounted

Flutterby – Age 3-1ST grade (new age range)          

As a whole group, students reveal how butterflies and moths differ by dressing up a student or teacher and studying preserved butterflies and moths. In an active metamorphosis game, students experience the amazing butterfly life cycle.

NEW! Bug Bonanza – K–1st grade

Meet live bugs, including holding Rosie*, to discover how different types of amazing animals live in habitats near and far. Through role playing, movement and music, students experience the joy and wonder of the amazingly diverse world of invertebrates. *Must be at least 3 years old to hold Rosie.

Length: 45 minutes

Critter Classification – 1st-6th grade

In group activities, students work together to examine models and specimens, and observe live animals to identify arthropod characteristics and practice sorting critters into major groups: insects, spiders, and others.

Ages/Grades: 1st-6th grade

Metamorphosis Moves – 1st-6th grade

Led by a Butterfly Pavilion science educator and a Colorado Ballet dance educator, students dance and move to learn about the life cycle of a butterfly!  Learners examine preserved specimens from every stage of the butterfly life cycle.

Ages/Grades: 1st-6th grade
Length: 60 minutes
Fee: $200/session, sequential sessions discounted

Incredible Invertebrate Adaptations – 2nd-5th grade

Invertebrates display incredible and almost unbelievable adaptations! At stations, using science process skills, live animals, specimens, and media, students investigate invertebrates and their incredible – and sometimes unbelievable – physical and behavioral adaptations!

Ages/Grades: 2nd-5th grade
Length: 45 minutes

Habitat Connections – 2nd-5th grade

Invertebrates live where they find habitat-food, water, shelter, and space-and they keep those environments healthy through habitat connections. Using live animals, media, and critical thinking, students uncover connections like predator, prey, decomposer, symbiosis, and more.

Ages/Grades: 2nd-5th grade
Length: 45 minutes

Bug Bites – 3rd– 8th grade

Bugs for dinner?! This program reveals how common bug-eating really is in our lives and in other cultures around the world. Journey with us as we travel across the globe, meet live animals, and – if you dare – even taste-test a bug! Bone(less) appétit!

Length: 60 minutes

Pollination Pals – 4th-6th grade

Invertebrates and flowers are intricately linked and the outcome is much of the food we eat! Using media, specimens, and science process skills, students decipher the relationships and adaptations of flowers and their diverse pollinators.

Aquatic Invertebrates – 4th-8th grade

Student scientists explore adaptations and critical ecological relationships of key aquatic invertebrates. In small groups, students analyze real data to understand how environmental changes can impact aquatic invertebrates and ecosystems.

Besieged Bees – 3rd-6th grade             distance learning/virtual class                         

In this empowering program presented via interactive video conference, participants compare three types of bees, discover why bees are so important, investigate why bee populations are declining, and generate ideas to help bees and people! Finally, find out about how to be involved with bee conservation and research efforts.

Monarch Mysteries – 3rd-6th grade     distance learning/virtual class                              

Much is known about monarch butterflies, yet mysteries remain! Through interactive video conference, student scientists explore the monarch’s epic migration journey, identify challenges they face through their life cycle, and outline how to help bolster declining monarch populations. Finally, engage your students in authentic monarch conservation and research activities. Perhaps your learners will be the scientists who demystify lingering questions! Requires high-speed internet, laptop with web cam, projector and screen, or large screen TV.

Virtual Invertebrate Encounter – PreK-Adult        distance learning/virtual class       

Through interactive video conferencing, a featured invertebrate* is introduced with a story or activity and shown on camera. Then student scientists take the lead through inquiry, asking questions about the animal that set the direction for the remainder of this fun, back-and-forth session.   *Choose from a list of invertebrate options.

Ages/Grades: PreK-Adult 
Length: Up to 30 minutes

Afterschool Enrichment Series – PreK-6th grade

Butterfly Pavilion offers a series of engaging, play-based programs infused with science content and fun designed for youth groups, camps, childcare programs and schools working with youth K-6 afterschool or during school breaks.     Special add-on Classes

    Pre-registration is required, you must request a Scout Class or Senior Tea Time at least two weeks in advance. Classes are an additional $25 per group on top of the cost of group rate admission.

     

    CANCELLATION POLICY: If you cancel in less than five business days of your scheduled class the $25 class fee will still be charged as cancellation fee.

     

    Meet your badge requirements by scheduling one of our fun, inquiry-based classes. These 40 minute programs are offered weekday afternoons and Saturdays based on availability.

    Enjoy some delicious tea and cookies as you take part in adult-focused classes with topics ranging from the role of insects across cultures to an in-depth, behind-the-scenes look at how and where we get our butterflies. Classes are offered Monday-Friday at 2:20 pm or 3:30 pm.

    Please enter at least two dates, in order of preference. Our regular Outreach scheduling days are Monday through Saturday. Programs taking place on Sundays will incur an addtional $25 after-hours fee.

    Payment Information

  • Payment Terms and Conditions

    I understand that payment will be due one week before the presentation. I understand that charges will include the program fee and a round trip mileage fee ($0.25/mile within the SCFD, $0.50/mile outside the SCFD), calculated using the location address I have provided and Google Maps.

    I understand that if the program I am requesting takes place outside normal Butterfly Pavilion Outreach program days or hours, I will be assessed a $25 after-hours fee.

    I understand that correspondence about and invoices for this request will be by e-mail.

    I agree to be responsible for payment, and to provide accurate billing contact information, including contact name, mailing address, e-mail, and phone number, by completing this information above BEFORE I submit this request.

    I agree to forward updated invoicing information if such information changes before the Outreach invoice is paid in full.
