As part of the Senior Habitat Gardening Program, Butterfly Pavilion staff, volunteers, and participating senior citizens have installed butterfly habitat gardens at 49 residential and recreational senior facilities along Colorado’s Front Range. Currently, Butterfly Pavilion selects between four and six facilities each year, based on resident interest, how suited the site is for butterfly habitat, and funding available. In the spring, our educators visit each facility to teach the seniors about butterfly gardening. Soon after, our horticulture staff and volunteers arrive to help plant a perennial butterfly habitat garden. The colorful and lively garden then becomes a part of the senior community—places to relax, enjoy gentle exercise, and socialize with family and friends.
