Insectival Activities

Some activities require tickets an addition to admission. Tickets are $.50 each and can be purchased at the front door or in the carnival game area.

Activities Included With Admission!

• Bubbles - Calling all little ones-its bubbles time! Make large bubbles with special wands.  
• Cool Down Zone & Movie Room (Classroom A) - Enjoy a bug classic, Honey I Shrunk the Kids and cool down from the heat outside!
• Cockroach Races (Ballroom C/D) -  Pick your racer, give a pep talk and go! Watch and see if your cockroach wins the race. Real Madagascar Hissing cockroaches are used in the races.
• Nature Trail -Venture through our short-grass prairie and see invertebrates in their native habitat.Also the location for our Bug Hunts! (see below)
• Information Fair Activities - Learn about invertebrates while visiting other cultural attractions from around the state! Click to see who's coming!
• Butterfly Encounters (Wings of the Tropics) - Learn about newly emerged butterflies and where they come from. Offered at 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
• Bug Hunts - Explore the nature trail and find out about bugs in your own backyard.  Click to see our schedule for Bug Hunt departure times!

Carnival Games  - 1 ticket each

• Aphid Toss (Bean Bag Toss) - Toss the aphids to feed the ladybug and win! 
• Bee's Bonanza (Spinning Wheel) - Learn about the honey bee and win a prize when you answer the question correctly.                                        
• Rosie's Rings (Ring Toss )- Can you get three rings on Rosie's eight legs?
• Bee-Ringed Circus (Hula Hoops) - Did you know honeybees dance to communicate? Try the waggle dance yourself!
• Predator Toss (Milk Bottle Toss) - Try your hand as a predator! Look through buggy eyes, knock down the "prey" bottles and win!
  
• Dragonfly Darts (Dart Throw) - Launch the "dragonfly darts" and learn about these amazing aeronauts!
• Quest for the Queen - Pick a sucker from our "hive" and try to find a Queen bee for a special prize. Everyone's a winner at this carnival game.
• Bug Walk (Circle Walk)  Perfect for all ages! Wait for the music to stop, answer a buggy question, and find out if you're the winner!

• Caricature Drawings (1 Ticket) - Ever wonder what you might look like as an invertebrate? Now you can know!
• Bouncy Castle (2 Tickets) - Become a butterfly in our "butterfly" bouncy house!
• Tie Dying Station (3 to 10 Tickets) - Flash back to the 60's and tie dye a handkerchief or t-shirt under the green awning.
• Face Painting (4 Tickets) - Get your face painted with beautiful images or buggy creatures
• Balloon Artist (4 Tickets) -Take away your very own "buggy" creature made by balloon twisting
