Illuminating Small Wonders

Holiday lights are even more festive when they fly, flutter, and crawl! Join us this holiday season at the Butterfly Pavilion for  Living Lights event. Experience a journey of indoor and outdoor light displays featuring some of the world’s smallest wonders - invertebrates. You'll see scorpions glow, watch the rainforest come alive with firefly lights, and marvel as the gardens sparkle with thousands of holiday lights. The event will be held nightly from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m. from December 10th through the 23rd.

Event will be held rain, snow or shine. Portions of the event are outdoors, please dress appropriately for the weather.

Giant ladybugs, dragonflies, and butterflies will grace the winter landscape of the Butterfly Pavilion's Discovery Garden along with thousands of lights illuninating the trees, grasses, and bushes. While indoors, exhibit enhancements will include special lighting that will enhance insects that fluoresce under black light as well as displays on "Bugs in Winter" and "Fireflies." New live animals will also be on display. The rainforest conservatory will also be lit with special "firefly" lights that dance and blink.

Food and beverages will be available for purchase on select nights.

Groups: The Butterfly Pavilion offers discounts for groups of ten or more paid admissions that are reserved at least 72 hours in advance. To receive the group rate ($2.00 discount on admission per guest), groups must:

  • Pre-register at least 72 hours in advance
  • Have at least 10 paying individuals (any mix of children, adults, or seniors)
  • Pay as a group (with a single transaction) upon arrival

The Butterfly Pavilion combines science education with interactive fun to teach visitors about invertebrates and conservation.
