Our outreach programs generate excitement and encourage an appreciation for the diversity of invertebrate life, habitats, and conservation in the most innovative and educationally-fulfilling ways! 

 

Miss Muffet Storytime

Enjoy an interactive story time with Little Miss Muffet and her loveable spider friends. Read a spider story together and visit with live spiders, including Rosie the tarantula!
*Preschool-1st grade, $80/45 minute program, (maximum 30 students)

Flutterby

Experience the life cycle of a butterfly! Build a butterfly, help a caterpillar grow up, and discover the differences between moths and butterflies as a class. Includes a special closing activity and Pavilion guest!
*Preschool, $80/45 minute program, (maximum 30 students)
*K-3rd grade, $100/1 hour program, (maximum 60 students)


Butterflies and Blooms

Discover the fascinating partnership between insects and plants. Students will learn about habitats and their requirements and work together to create an interactive ecosystem. Play the pollination game and learn the importance of pollinators like bees and butterflies!
*2nd-5th grade, $100/1 hour program, (maximum 30 students)

Don’t Bug Me

Who bugs a ladybug? Does it bug anything? Explore the dynamic interactions within Colorado's habitats and the importance of biodiversity through an exciting group game! Live invertebrates allow for hands-on engagement at the program's conclusion.
*3rd-5th grade, $100/1 hour program, (maximum 30 students)

Bug Bites

Welcome to the Bug Bites Café! Discover bug cuisine from cultures around the world and find bugs in our everyday food. Meet live animals who have been on the menu and taste a few buggy treats yourself!
*4th-8th grade, $100/1 hour program, (maximum 30 students)

Live Bugs!

Get up close with live insects, spiders and other arthropods from around the world.
*Summer Bug Safari—June-August, all ages, $125/1 hour program, (maximum 60 students)
*Prek Summer Bug Safari—June-August, ages 3-5 , $80/45 minute program, (maximum 30 students)
*CU Bugmobile—Sept-May. Call Science from CU to register at 303-492-8640.

Creepy Crawly Story Time

Explore a variety of age-appropriate buggy stories while discovering the truth and fiction about insects and their creepy-crawly relatives! Program can be modified to match science content needs (life cycles, insects vs arachnids, adaptations, food webs and more) of individual classrooms
*Preschool-1st grade, $80/45 minute program, (maximum 30 students)



Travel Fee

$15 per visit to locations less than 40 miles (one way) from the Butterfly Pavilion.
Additional roundtrip mileage (above 80 miles) is charged at $.485 / mile.

Insect Loan Boxes

These boxes are a perfect complement to your classroom insect and butterfly unit. Loan boxes contain a variety of invertebrate animal mounts, fun teaching aids and developed curriculum to help you teach insect basics. Call 720.974.1862 for information.

Extend the learning - Bring the Butterfly Pavilion to you!

When your class comes to the Butterfly Pavilion for a fieldtrip, outreach programs can be scheduled for your students at a reduced rate! Book one program and get 10% off or book two programs and get 15% off. Fieldtrips and outreaches must be booked at the same time. The Butterfly Pavilion combines science education with interactive fun to teach visitors about invertebrates and conservation. Our five immersive exhibits, including our rainforest filled with 1,200 free-flying tropical butterflies, provide a year-round, unforgettable experience. Visitors can get up close and personal with live animals, enjoy daily educational programs, explore the wonder of the outdoors on the nature trail, and discover the newest traveling exhibit.
