The Butterfly Pavilion offers fun and educational camps with a focus on invertebrate animals such as insects and spiders. Come experience the joys of nature with us this summer! All camps include live animal encounters, outdoor explorations, games, and crafts. We offer 1 ½ hour camps, half day camps, and full day camp experiences for ages 4-9.

Step right up and learn all about the crazy world of creepy crawlies! Learn about the beast with two heads and other wacky invertebrates in our newest exhibit, Dr. Entomo’s Palace of Exotic Wonders. Meet live bugs, make a buggy craft, and compete in the Insect Olympics, much like a real circus carnival game!

Spend time in the Butterfly Pavilion’s animal rearing room, learn how to raise insects and become an expert in field observation. Earn your own “Bug Badge” exploring behind the scenes at the Butterfly Pavilion and dig deep to discover how the odd and crazy world of bugs and their relatives really works! (Note: You do not have to take Spiders, Bugs, and Butterflies I to enroll in this class, but it is highly encouraged.)

What role did insects and other invertebrates play in the lives of the first Americans? We’ll explore a different Native American culture each day through myths and art. Create a dragonfly like the one made by a Zuni boy to save his village and catch bad dreams in a spider web-like dream catcher. Discover the tales of “Grandmother Spider Steals the Sun,” “How Butterflies Came to Be” and many other fascinating Native American stories in this one-of-a-kind class.

It's tough being a bug in a human world - Delve into the little known side of a bug's life where creepy crawlies are found in stories, movies, songs and the art of people from around the world! Discover why the ancient Egyptians worshipped the scarab beetle, how wasp nests inspired papermaking, and why crickets are kept as pets in China and bring luck to their owners. Create a fun and unique art project each day to match the culture you explore!

Become a bug investigator this summer at the Butterfly Pavilion. The journey begins in the classroom with crafts, animal encounters, and hands-on activities, and then ventures out into the great outdoors where investigators face nature and all its creatures! Campers will learn about insects, arachnids, aquatic invertebrates, and their important role in the environment. Become a bug expert by writing your own class book!
