The Butterfly Pavilion serves over 35,000 students each year through outreach and onsite education programs. All of our field trip classes meet Colorado State Model Content Educational Standards.

2012 Citizen Science Series

On Saturdays during the summer become a part of the national research effort to learn about and conserve invertebrates and plants! Each program provides fascinating background information about the topic and teaches you how to do the project in your own back yard. Support invertebrate conservation through your efforts!
 

Lost Ladybug Project

Some ladybug populations are declining and others are increasing, and this change is happening rapidly. In this fascinating workshop, learn about ladybugs, their importance in the garden what our results show from our gardens and how you can become a part of this national citizen science project.
 

Great Sunflower Project

Explore our gardens with an eye to learning about the native bees. This national citizen science project is learning about declining native bee populations across the United States. Start with a fascinating talk exploring the bees and data from our gardens and then take home seeds to try it in your backyard.
 

Monarch Watch

Saturday, September 1, 5:00 - 6:30 pm (Adult)

Everyone loves monarchs with their bright colors and spectacular migration. They have been studied for 20 years nationally through this citizen science program and more can still be learned. Last year was a great year for monarchs in our area, but not nation-wide. Come learn more about these amazing creatures and how you can be a part of this research project, take home tags to help expand our efforts and contribute to this important research as they migrate through in September.
 

Details:

  • Cost: $15.00 per person per class.
  • You must pre-register and pre-pay at least 72 hours in advance of the class.
  • Participation is limited.

The Butterfly Pavilion combines science education with interactive fun to teach visitors about invertebrates and conservation. Our five immersive exhibits, including our rainforest filled with 1,600 free-flying tropical butterflies, provide a year-round, unforgettable experience. Visitors can get up close and personal with live animals, enjoy daily educational programs, explore the wonder of the outdoors on the nature trail, and discover the newest traveling exhibit.
