The name is derived from the Greek anti, against, and gonia, an angle, probably referring to the zigzag stems. It is vigorous and attains a height of 30 to 50 feet. It has thin, pointed, heart-shaped leaves about 1 – 3 inches long. The flowers are coral pink to coral red borne in axillary racemes.
