Antigonon leptopus is one of eight slender vines that comprise this genus. The name is derived from the Greek anti, against, and gonia, an angle, probably referring to the zigzag stems. It is vigorous and attains a height of 30 to 50 feet. It has thin, pointed, heart-shaped leaves about 1 – 3 inches long. The flowers are coral pink to coral red borne in axillary racemes.
