Scientific Name: Brachypelma albopilosum

Order: Araneae

Range: The range stretches the Atlantic side of Honduras, Nicaragua and north-eastern Costa Rica.

Diet: These spiders feed on a variety of small invertebrates.

Reader Rail Information: A burrowing species, the Curly Hair tarantula a very distinct species from Central America, ranging from Honduras to Costa Rica. The common name comes from the peculiar appearance of the hairs on the legs being curled back – sort of like being blown or combed backwards. This is a very docile species commonly kept as a pet. Curly Hairs are dark brown with a profusion of pinkish-orange hairs covering the abdomen and legs. Its natural habitat is the rainforests where the humidity is 80% RH. The average lifespan of the female is 12 years.
