The Butterfly Pavilion was the nation's first stand-alone non-profit insect zoo. In its exhibits visitors see and interact with live invertebrates from around the globe.
Range: Mississippi Valley region of the United States (furthest western range)
Diet: Small Invertebrates
Reader Rail Information: A medically important (treatment should be sought) species commonly confused with other members of their Family (Sicariidae – “Fiddleback Spiders”) and other little brown spiders like Running Crab Spiders (Philodromidae). A common misconception is that the Brown Recluse has a much wider range than it truly does. The Southwestern United States have the Desert Recluse, and Hawaii has the Brown Fiddle Spider (both close relatives). Colorado has no known members of the Recluse genus.
